I have tried quite a few receivers up to now. Here is what I like and
doesn't like about them
| Pansat 2700 |
|
 |
This is a very good receiver. Not too
expensive, supports diseqc 1.0 and 1.2, blindscan. You will find
svideo connectors in the back. A very good stable entry receiver.
Please note that it has been replace with the 2800 which is about the
same. This receiver allows you to receive dvb 4:2:0 signals. |

|
| Pansat 3500 |
|
 |
One of my "old" receivers. Component and
spdif outputs, blindscan. One thing interesting is the possibility
of using the SD card reader to listen to mp3 or update the firmware.
Very good, very stable, good image and sound. I use it everyday to
listen to The Tube TV. This receiver allows you to receive dvb
4:2:0 signals |
| |
|
| Motorola 922 |
|
 |
This receiver allows you to receive VCII and DC
signals. svideo output. Good quality. UHF remote.
You can buy programming to get the US signals. We used to get with
this the best picture available. Now with many channels leaving
analog, and companies re-uplinking many signals on the same transponder
it becomes more and more like a regular satellite service.
However you can still use it to control you big dish (which is what I
do) and there are still many analogs channels and a couple of HD
channels (that you can receive with and HDD-200). Too bad analog
channels are disappearing because it was very fun looking at the quality
of analog channels. |

| Fortec Lifetime Ultra |
|
|
 |
My first dvb receiver. This receiver was
great but it has been outperform by others. No component out but a
good blindscan, good image quality. Supports Diseqc 1.0 and 1.2.
This receiver allows you to receive dvb 4:2:0 signals |
| |
|
| Magnum ExtremeView XV-3300 |
|
|
 |
Some people recommended me this received and I
must say I was very surprised. Great image, supports diseqc 1.0,
1.1 and 1.2. Component and SPDIF output. Channel changes is
fast. remote is slick. A very good receiver. This
receiver allows you to receive dvb 4:2:0 signals |
| |
|
| Captive Works CW-600s |
|
|
|
Again a very good receiver, the only thing I did
not like about it is the fact that the blindscan is very slow,
incredibly slow. I know that for some people it was not important
but for me it was. Too bad. This receiver allows you to
receive dvb 4:2:0 signals |
| |
|
| Twinhan dtv starbox II usb |
|
|
 |
Great unit if you want to use your pc and a
software like My Theatre to get DVB signals. It is a little more
complicated to set than a receiver but it can be very rewarding because
with the proper configuration and codecs you can get 4:2:2 signals.
Only thing missing is the support for blindscan with this. Stay
away from the version I of the Starbox. Also, since it gets its
power from an external power supply you won't miss power if you want to
control a motor. |

| Expressvu 9220 PVR |
|
 |
Wow! what a great receiver, I bought it the
first month it was available with Bell Expressvu (I have a legit
subscription in case you are wondering) and have been amazed. You
get the SD and HD channels from Bell (package is not so expensive),
HDMI, Component, SPDIF outputs plus PVR functions. So you can
program your shows. Also it allows you to watch two different
programs on two tv. This is why there is two remotes. |
| |
|
| Dish Network 510 PVR |
|
|
 |
Another very good receiver. I wanted to
have a PVR receiver with my subscription and the 510 has never deceived
me. Recording is simple, image is good using svideo output and
sound is crisp with SPDIF. Only thing missing is Component output,
available in newer versions. |

|
| Viewsat Extreme |
|
 |
A great receiver in my opinion. Very fast
blindscan, very fast channel switching, svideo, component, SPDIF output,
support diseqc 1.0 and 1.2. This receiver allows you to receive
dvb 4:2:0 signals |
| |
|
| Pansat 6000 |
|
 |
An ordinary receiver if you want PVR, the pansat
6000 has been deceiving for me with all the small bugs in software.
I decided to return it after two weekd. |
Viewsat Ultra |
Another great receiver from viewsat, it does
about the same things as the Viewsat Extreme with the exception of a usb
port that can be used to update software. |
Quali-TV QS-1080i
 |
I have mixed feelings for this receiver it could
be so great with a couple of small additions. First the good part
: this unit has the best image I have ever seen, support for 4:2:2
and HD programming and hdmi and component output.
The bad news. Configuration and usage is not for the newbie.
No blindscan, no possibility to program more than 4 sats even if you are
using diseqc 1.2.
But when you understand how this works it proves to be a great receiver.
PBS in HD looks great in this.
This receiver will allow you to receive HD, 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 signals. |
Coolsat 6000
 |
A very good receiver, I decided to try it for
many reasons. I saw many recommandations on web sites and I read
that it supports diseqc 1.1 (and it is true). You can check pages
about switches and with this and a combination of committed and
uncommitted switches you can go to an incredible number of sats you will
get. |
